Dr. Velazquez specializes in pregnancies complicated by high risk maternal or fetal conditions. She enjoys interacting with the mother through the entire process including preconception counseling, co-management of the pregnancy and the postpartum period if needed. Dr. Velazquez has practiced medicine in the academic setting as well as private practice and has focused on high risk pregnancies since 2001. She is a native of west Texas and is very familiar with the patient population and their medical challenges. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her children, cooking, gardening and helping with animal rescue.

Velez introduced two third-year students from San Juan Bautista School of Medicine, Elsa Rodriguez and Brian Torres, who recounted their experiences on the island before, during and after Hurricane Maria, which made landfall Sept. 20. The UF College of Medicine sponsored the pair’s clinical rotations, allowing them to continue their medical training without delay.
