That’s one of the biggest things I wanted to learn when I came to college. Unfortunately it’s not happening because too many kids are forced into writing classes as a requirement and it’s too easy to treat writing as a blow-off.
I just want to be able to… [see, if I were a better writer I would know how to say what I mean to say here]. I think writing is one of the best skills one can master as an individual. Many times, even on Tumblr, I start writing a post and it just goes on and on and around and over and back and I end up having to throw it in my (bottomless) Drafts folder (of doom) because I don’t know how to actually nail down what I wanted to say.
It’s not that I’m a poor writer; grammar-wise, structure-wise, I don’t think I have a problem. But I guess I still need that push to be a sharper, more punchy, more confident writer. I need to know how to tell a story that stirs people. I need to know how the fuck that column writer can put out 7 paragraphs that changes the way I look at the world.
And the funny thing is, I don’t even want to be a writer, not a journalist, nor a blogger. I just want to write better, because it’s so damn important to me in every way.
